Innovation in a Week 2011

Techniek-makelaar and Ministerie van Nieuwe Dingen will once again organize ‘Innovation in a Week’ from the 24th untill the 28th of October. ‘Innovation in a Week’ will demonstrate a tried and tested method for business to transfer technological patents into concrete products within 5 days. During the event 8 Industrial Design TU/e students will demonstrate their skills. Together with experts and partners they will create innovations for seniors within the theme of healthcare. On thursday 27th and friday 28th of october, Mazars, Vereenigde, Holst Centre, ABN AMRO TechnoDesk, Ministerie van Nieuwe Dingen and Techniek-makelaar will further explain processes and the added value of ‘Innovation in a Week’ in a number of workshops. Somehow, chairs have been the favorite vessel for designers to express new ideas about form, interaction, or human product relationships. Think of the Rietveld chair that became the epitome of abstract, modernistic design. But also the Verner patton chair and the Eames lounge chair became an icon for a design direction or perhaps even an era. Report: Innovation in a Week 2010

Contestants were challenged to develop patents to working applications within a week

For Europe and the Netherlands in particular, technological innovation is becoming an increasingly important component of the economy. This is reflected in the increasing amount of money that is being spent on supporting the development of promising technological findings. In 2011 alone, the European Union plans to spend €6.4 billion on innovation, a 12% increase in comparison to 2010 and a 30% increase in comparison to 2009.
